Bang.

It was a glorious weekend at Atrox. We got some shooting (on film) done, then we got some shooting (with a gun) done. Mike Wade (along with Lisa Mason, Mike's wife and Interplanetary actress) stopped by on Sunday afternoon to fire off a few test rounds. Mike and fellow gun-smith Daniel had mixed up a variety of different blank loads, some flashier than others.

We ran video to approximate how the guns firing would look on film -- here are a few frame grabs...

I vote for number 3! Just great! What gun is the base for this weapon? Is it a blank-only firing weapon?

That was so much fun! My dad showed these pictures to a friend in his gun club and conviced the poor guy this was some new military prototype.
Number 3 is also my favorite, if we get to vote.

Andrew -- the base is a real pistol, a big one. A .44 Magnum, I believe. Lisa could probably tell us.

Lisa -- you guys definitely get a vote. I think Mike's plan was to find the one that looks good on camera and is also consistent.

Keep in mind, these are single frames. I should post some multiple-frame versions so you can see how the shot "plays out."

In keeping with my own personal concept of "less is more", I like number 1. But if "more is more", my favorite is number 3.

"Less is more?" That's just crazy talk. Seriously, you have a point. There's still more testing to be done, so nothing is set in stone yet.

Now you be careful with real fire-able weapons on set!

Hey Chance,
I don't know if you've seen anything from Rob Schrab's short film, "Robot Bastard," but he's got some really cool sci-fi gun designs and stop motion things that may be cool to watch. Plus, it's the only short I've seen with a commentary on it! I remember seeing him do practical fx in camera with cellophane and flashlights, too (before g4tv started its long, downward spiral...sigh)
Anyway, keep up with the updates!
